The Ray & Gupta Charitable Organization (RGCO) supports underprivileged communities in the United States and developing countries with medical supplies, direct assistance, and continuing education for the physicians and nurses who care for them.

Why RGCO exists

Care shouldn't depend on your zip code.

RGCO was established to promote healthcare in underprivileged areas of the United States and developing countries by providing medical supplies, equipment, services, and education opportunities for physicians. We work in two directions at once: putting resources directly into the hands of people who need care, and putting current knowledge into the hands of the clinicians who provide it.

Every dollar is tracked against one of two programs below, and every hour our members and volunteers give is logged the same way — so supporters always know exactly what their support is doing.

What we do

Two programs, one purpose

Members and volunteers decide where their time is most needed; RGCO decides where the funding follows. Both are guided by the same review process before a single dollar moves.

Giving for medical-related needs

Assistance moves in three ways: direct purchase of medical supplies to give away, direct medical assistance in the field, and grants to organizations already doing the work where the need is.

  • Recipients are chosen through applications, or by member vote when a major need affects many people at once — natural disasters and pandemics, for example.
  • Before any assistance is given, RGCO reviews the receiving organization against four criteria: demonstrated need, a clear plan for how the funds advance healthcare, a track record, and — for foreign organizations — compliance with U.S. statutes and restrictions on providing funds.
  • Members and volunteers handle the purchasing, packaging, and delivery themselves.
  • For planned trips, RGCO covers the basic travel, housing, and meals of medically trained members and volunteers who donate their time — paid directly, not reimbursed after the fact.

Continuing medical education

Licensed clinicians need ongoing education hours every year — but in underprivileged areas, the funds, opportunities, and time to travel to a real conference are often missing, leaving many doing the bare minimum on repetitive material.

  • Dr. Gupta's experience as an international speaker anchors each event; other leaders in the relevant field are invited to teach alongside him.
  • Attendance is free for every clinician who comes — registration fees aren't part of the model.
  • Vendor booths rented at each conference cover the cost of running it; anything raised beyond that funds shorter, booth-free seminars and the medical giving program above.

Whether a request comes in through an application or a member vote during a crisis, the same standard applies before funds or supplies go out the door.

  • Use of funds Can the organization show how the funds will advance healthcare?
  • History Does the organization have a track record we can evaluate?
  • Compliance For foreign organizations: do they meet U.S. statutes, regulations, and restrictions on providing funds?
